The NYPD will take “immediate steps” to protect the city against any possible “retaliation” in the wake of a deadly US airstrike in Iraq, Mayor Bill de Blasio said Thursday night.
The mayor said in a post on Twitter that he discussed the safety measures with NYPD Commissioner Dermot Shea and counterterrorism chief, John Miller.
Hizzoner didn’t elaborate, but said the steps are meant to “protect key NYC locations from any attempt by Iran or its terrorist allies to retaliate against America.”
He added: “We will have to be vigilant against this threat for a long time to come.”
The US launched rockets at Baghdad’s international airport, killing seven, including powerful Iranian Gen. Qassim Soleimani.
In a separate tweet following the airstrike, de Blasio said he was “Worried for our city + nation.”
