The first season of "Locke and Key" tells the story of the three Locke children — Bode, Kinsey, and Tyler — discovering that their ancestral house is filled with magical keys. Oh, and there's a demon trying to get the keys from them, and use the keys' powers for evil. Not good.
By the season one finale, a total of 12 keys have been revealed. But who has them? Which ones aren't accounted for?
Let's take a closer look at all the keys, and who has which ones by the end of season one.
Kinsey is keeping a bunch of keys in the music box on her dresser
- Omega Key (opens the Black Door in the sea caves)
- Ghost Key (opens the Ghost Door in Keyhouse and allows people to separate their souls from their bodies and fly around)
- Head Key (allows people to explore their own minds and take and remove things like memories from their heads)
- Matchstick Key (lights people and things on fire instantaneously)
All four of these keys were shown inside the magical Music Box on Kinsey's dresser towards the end of episode ten. One key notably missing from her set was the actual Music Box Key — more on that in a bit.
Either Tyler or Bode should have the Mending Key
- Mending Key (allows the user to open the magical mending box, which will fix broken objects)
The Mending Key was used primarily on episode eight, "Ray of F**king Sunshine," when Nina discovers how the cabinet and key work together to repair broken objects,
Since Dodge never got ahold of that key, and it wasn't in Kinsey's music box, then for now it's safe to assume that either Tyler or Bode has it.
Dodge has several important keys, including the Music Box Key
- Shadow Key (allows its holder to use the Crown of Shadows and control monstrous beings)
- Anywhere Key (opens a portal between any two doorways in the world as long as the user has seen the door in question)
- Identity Key (changes the appearance of anybody depending on how the user wishes to look)
- Mirror Key (traps people inside "the prison of the self")
- Music Box Key (allows its holder to control the actions of any other person using the Magic Box itself)
- Plant Key (allows its holder to control plant forms like trees and vines)
During the closing minutes of episode ten we learned that Dodge was disguising herself as Gabe and hiding in plain sight as Kinsey's new boyfriend. She was shown with the Anywhere Key and Identity Key, and we know she still has the Shadow Key after escaping Keyhouse with the Crown of Shadows.
But it also appears like she has the Mirror Key, Music Box Key, and Plant Key — all of which were in the little plastic bag Dodge kept at Ellie's house.
At the end of episode nine, Ellie told Dodge she had taken the Head Key from the bag. We never saw the Lockes or Ellie or Rufus with any of the other keys in that bag, which means it's safe to assume Dodge still has them.
We aren't sure where the Echo Key is
- Echo Key (brings back an echo of dead people inside the wellhouse)
Ellie was the last known owner of the Echo Key, but it's possible Dodge stole it from her while staying at her house. Or did Ellie turn it over to the Lockes? Maybe this is another one Tyler or Bode secretly has
There are still more keys in Keyhouse the Lockes haven't found
As shown on the first episode here, Mark Cho appears to have hidden both the Animal Key and the Timeshift key somewhere inside Keyhouse. The Locke kids haven't found them yet, but that could be an important part of season two (if Netflix greenlights more episodes).
