MADISON (WKOW) -- Court records show Madison Police Department investigators used bank and neighborhood cameras to identify the suspected thief of a bank branch on Atwood Avenue.
On Wednesday, Dashun Williams, 25, was charged with felony robbery of a financial institution.
The Monona Bank branch at 1965 Atwood Avenue was robbed just after it opened Oct. 19, 2019.
A criminal complaint states a state probation agent identified Williams from video recorded in the bank.
The complaint says video from a convenience store near the bank shows Williams leaving in a car registered to him moments after the robbery.
An element of the crime Williams faces is "...use of force or threat of imminent force." Williams' attorney, Assistant State Public Defender Guy Cardamone, says Williams only handed a teller a note asking for money with no dye packs and made no threat.
Cardamone Wednesday asked that Williams' charge be thrown out for lack of probable cause. But Dane County Court Commissioner Brian Asmus said one of Williams' hands was in his pocket, and a teller could have reasonably feared he had a weapon.
Williams is the subject of a probation hold.
Asmus set his bail at $2,500.
