Lindsay: For me, it’s going to take scoring points and running stride for stride with the Rams. Missing field goals, not capitalizing the red zone, quick 3-and-outs will be a surefire way to come up short in this one. Need 25-30 points to be in this game.
Rob: Pretty simple. Complementary football. Haven’t been many games this season where offense, defense and special teams all played a clean, consistent game together. The win over Philly stands out, and that night it was the defense providing a spark with early takeaways. I think that’s what has to happen here: a momentum-changing play that helps the offense (and special teams) with field position. But it starts with being technically sound tackling and and not allowing the Rams’ offense to settle in with their run game.
It seems like it is taking longer than normal for Leighton Vander Esch to return to where he can play in a game. What’s the update?- CRAIG COLLINS / ROSWELL, NM
Lindsay:No update, except that he’s thinking of his career in long-term opposed to rushing back into anything. A neck injury is not something to take lightly, and this training staff does a great job of doing what they know is right, and never listening to outside noise or rushing something. Fully trust they’re all working together for what’s best for Leighton.
Rob: Head coach Jason Garrett says it still might be a little bit more time until Vander Esch is ready. Rightfully so, the staff is being careful here to let the inflammation in his neck calm down and not come back too quickly. It’s the right move. They could really use Sean Lee (pectoral, thigh) in the lineup Sunday to help with the depth, but he didn’t practice the first two days this week.
