Gold prices topped $1,500 an ounce for the first time in seven weeks on Tuesday amid a resurgence in demand for the precious metals ahead of Christmas. Bullion for February delivery [S: GCG20] on Comex gained $16.10, or 1.1%, to settle at $1,504.80 an ounce, its highest settlement since Nov. 4, when the most-active contract hit $1,518.60 an ounce, according to FactSet data. That mark's bullion's second straight gain and a year-to-date advance of 17.3%, according to FactSet data.
